How to keep frost of your windshield in the winter

It can be difficult to leave the house on a cold winter morning, but it is even worse when there is frost on the windshield. It must be scraped off, or the vehicle must be running long enough for the inside defroster to melt it. Going to work or running errands can become a hassle when this occurs, so preventing it is the best way to get off to a good start on a cold winter day. There are many different ways to keep this from happening, and here are three of them.

For those who must keep their vehicle outside in the weather, spraying the windshield with a solution of three parts vinegar and one part water before going in at night is a good way to keep frost from forming. The solution will freeze at a low enough temperature, but the majority of vehicles are not subjected to below zero weather. Keeping the vinegar and water solution in a spray bottle for easy use when parking the car is a good way to remember to do it before going in for the night.

Another do-it-yourself solution to mix up contains rubbing alcohol instead of vinegar, but the rest of the method is the same. Simply keep the solution in a handy spray bottle and use it on the windshield before leaving the vehicle for the night. It will have the same effect as the vinegar solution, and the windshield should be clear in the morning. Alcohol does have a lower freezing temperature than vinegar, but either remedy should be sufficient.

Covering the entire windshield is a method some people have found useful, and it can be an easy way to get started with the first rays of the morning sun. Simply take an old blanket, tablecloth or piece of plastic and cover the windshield. It is recommended that it be anchored to keep it in place, so shut the ends into the driver and passenger doors. Placing the wipers on top of the sheet will help it remain where it will do the most good. Removal is easy in the morning, and it can be rolled up for use later in the day.

Keeping frost off the windshield is a good way to start the day without standing in a freezing environment while trying to prepare a vehicle to get on the road, and it can be easy. For those who have a garage, using it during the winter months is the easiest method of keeping frost off the windshield, but the above solutions will work outdoors.
